The importance of disrupting traditional American math practices and adopting high-quality math curriculum continues to be essential for changing the trajectory of historically under-resourced schools. Building systems around high-quality math curriculum also is necessary to pay back the education debt we owe marginalized students. For decades, mathematics has been a de facto gatekeeper to future success and upward mobility for Black and Latinx students, and students experiencing poverty. To make math a gateway to opportunity for students of color and low-income scholars, we must examine and elevate experiences that students have in math classrooms. We also need to create strong systems around curriculum to support change in district culture, school culture and classroom culture.

Join the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools and other education experts for a discussion on how providing the highest quality curriculum helps level the playing field in math classrooms so that all students are equipped to get to and through college on a path to rewarding 21st Century careers.
